World Heritage Sites are places of global significance, telling the story of our cultural evolution and natural beauty. Their conservation for the appreciation and education of future generations is vital.
There are 1052 sites worldwide (Summer 2016). 814 are cultural sites, 203 are natural sites and 35 are mixed sites, where the natural and cultural significance is shared. The sites are located in 165 countries, and 192 state parties have ratified the World Heritage Convention.
